If you feel tired even after your rest, and you do not want to engage in activities that you used to enjoy, without a real reason, then your body is telling you that you are not treating it as well as you should. It might be that you are overweight, that you are not getting all the nutrients you need or that your body is dehydrated, or a mixture of all three. If this is the case for you a change to a healthy diet can make a big difference in your life.
What is a healthy diet?
When people think of a so called healthy diet, they think of carrots and lettuce and feeling hungry all the time. This is not necessarily true. A healthy diet is not meant to starve you or keep you hungry, and it is not meant to make you lose weight, although that is a nice side effect that happens very often. Instead, a healthy diet is aimed at providing you all the nutrition elements that you are otherwise lacking. You can design one yourself, if you have the discipline, or you can get one already prepared by a health specialist or nutriologist.
The content of such a diet: 7 food groups
1) The first food group that should be included in a healthy diet is carbohydrates, more commonly known as carbs. Carbs are included in any food that also includes sugar, just like bread or grain based foods like rice and noodles. Although you want to reduce your intake of carbs, you definitely should not eliminate them at all, as they are an important part of any healthy diet.
2) The second food group that should be included is fats. Again, like carbs, they should not be eliminated. Instead, foods that contain healthier types of fats should be preferred over heavier ones.
3) The third food group that should be included in each and every case is fiber. This category includes whole grains, vegetables and fruits. A diet which aims at losing weight will have plenty of these.
4) The fourth food group that should be included is protein. Since protein comes in meat, it is important not to eliminate meat totally from a healthy diet. Especially in times when it is most needed, like bone development, pregnancy, and lactation.
5) The fifth food group that should be included is minerals. These are the chemical elements that our body requires. While we do need them, the quantities required are very small and we definitely should not overdo it. The most prominent mineral we ingest is iodized salt.
6) The sixth food group that should be included is vitamins. As we all have learned from our mothers, vitamins are needed on a daily base and are definitely part of a healthy diet.
7) Last but not least, whether you consider it a food group or not, water is the most important element of a healthy diet. It prevents our bodies from dehydration and it is the medium through which toxins are eliminated from our body.
