Due to the lifestyle we lead, a lot of people weigh more than they should. That is because, with a few exceptions, we get much less physical exercise as we should. Some of us even worsen the situation by eating food that does not go well with our metabolism rate. Additionally eating and drinking things that have zero to little nutritional value certainly does not help things at all. By having overweight we expose ourselves to a physical health risk.

    The influence of the media

The media makes things even worse by presenting us underfed women who have unhealthy eating habits. While people should know better, a lot of them compare themselves with these images and consequently fall in depression and self esteem problems when they fail to reach these unhealthy states. Trying to emulate TV models is unrealistic and unhealthy; but being overweight is also something to worry about. It increases the risk of getting ill, including the risk of a stroke.

    Magic word: physical exercise

Physical exercises are the best solution and additionally following a diet menu can complement that and help to reduce the intake of calories and fat. Nevertheless, the best diet menu in the world cannot give natural health to a body without any doing any physical exercises. Always accompany a diet with physical activities that you enjoy.

    The importance of nutritional values

It is important to check the nutritional value of a diet menu before adopting it because a lot of people fall in the “starve-like-a-TV-model” trap. A diet menu that completely lacks fats and carbs is not healthy. We do want to reduce the quantities of those substances but we should not eliminate them altogether, as they are very important to our bodies. A diet menu that does not tell you its nutritional content is not trustworthy. Many people follow a certain diet because it advertises “lose weight,” and they completely forget to check any specifications. By not giving any nutritional information, the people that promote these diet menus can promise pretty much anything.

    Yo-yo dieting

If a diet menu promises results that seem to be miraculous then it is probably a scam. To give an example: Lose 40 pounds in a week, without exercise, and eating the things you want; that is simply not possible. Gaining weight is a process that takes time, and therefore losing it takes time as well. Additionally quick lose of weight can seriously damage your metabolism in the long run. After finishing such a “miracle diet menu,” you will definitely gain the weight back just even faster than you have lost it.

All in all, following a diet menu is ok, as long as you complement it with physical exercises and do it in a natural way.
